Hidden spy cameras, or covert spy cameras, are a great way to ensure peace of mind and keep a watch over things. Covert or hidden cameras can be wired or wireless. Wireless hidden cameras have the camera and transmitter concealed, and there is no wire running to the recording equipment. In the case of the wired version, the connection to the VCR or PC will be through a physical wired connection. Wired cameras usually have the advantage of having a ready power supply, whereas the wireless variety will have to depend on battery power.
Hidden cameras are usually embedded into everyday objects such as clocks, cigarette packs, radios, or even plants. You can also get cameras that you can place into any object yourself. If you would like to carry these cameras around, you can get them embedded in variety of commonly used objects such as pens, calculators, mobile phones, buttons, and ties.
Most hidden cameras can be plugged into your VCR or PC straightaway, making it possible for you to have on-line surveillance, if you want. You can also use these systems to trigger alarms or get emails sent to you in case of unusual happenings.
On the technical side, there are a few things that one needs to look at when considering a hidden camera, including the range and whether or not it has wide-angle viewing. Other considerations are its resolution and if it can adjust to varying lighting conditions.
Hidden cameras can be set up to record unattended. Look at unattended recording facilities and the length of time for which you can set up such recording. Finally, have a look also at how easy it is to set up the camera. This could help you in shifting the camera from place to place or even room to room.

The bedroom doorknocker is an antiquity that has a beauty and a charm that few in today’s world have ever heard of or experienced. But Susan Wells grew up in an old Victorian house that indeed had bedroom doorknockers. They were placed about half way up the center of the door. Low enough that a child could reach it and delight in introducing him or herself to the person behind the door. Each knocker was different. Susan’s was a bloodhound in front of his kennel with a little bird atop the roof. One of her sisters had a delightful little woodpecker.
As Susan and her sisters grew into their teenage years these little pieces of polite request for entry became important symbols of privacy. It was nothing less than rude not to use the knocker and wait for a voice to allow entry.
Many childhood memories fade, but the little bedroom doorknockers were a fond memory. When Susan and her husband went looking for their first house Susan hoped to find one with bedroom doorknockers. Of course she should not have been disappointed not to find any but human nature is what it is. However, they did find a perfect little house in a quiet neighborhood with just about everything they wanted on their budget minus the bedroom doorknockers.
But Susan wasn’t deterred. She started with the Internet and then found a decorative hardware store in town that could special order exactly what she was looking for. Now Susan looks forward to her children enjoying the fun of learning about the importance of respect, privacy and wonderful memories of the little bedroom doorknockers, too.

There are a lot of differing opinions as to what makes a good antique. Some believe that slight imperfections or something missing due to use are just authenticators and should never be repaired; others believe that the antique has to be complete and perfect for their consideration; still others, who consider themselves true conoisseurs insist that an antique be signed, just as any other work of art would be. These last clearly have the means to support this expensive point of view.
The real way to collect antiques is to be constantly alert to the kinds of antiques that are out there. If you were shopping for a race horse, a pedigreed dog, or a certain car, you would always keep your eyes and ears open for the right one for you. As for antiques, perhaps you would be just as happy with one of the quality reproductions that are made in the major cities of the world. People buy these all the time, and there are very many beautiful and sought after furniture and accessory reproductions. Real antique collectors, however, can spot a reproduction from a mile away. For the afficianado, reproductions do not have the ageless quality that an antique displays.
All of the parts of a true antique fit a perfect whole and the finish gains a certain patina with age. A fine antique is almost “good in its skin”, as a confident person may be said to be. If your pocketbook does not allow you to indulge in good antiques, you would probably be better off investing in lower cost but good quality modern furniture. In that way, the inexpensive rugs and materials you will have to buy will go better with your more modest furniture. This is a good beginning, because as you get older and your tastes mature and your bank account grows, you can then begin to collect one fine item at a time, all the while enjoying the pieces you were able to afford at the beginning. There are many very fine antique collections that started out just blending in with the furniture at hand until, at some point, after more and more pieces were accumulated, there is a cohesive whole to the collection.
As you become more and more financially successful, even the less expensive antiques can be replaced by rarer and finer items until the perfect antique collection has been amassed. This is a much wiser system than trying to build a collection that may be of dubious value (even if you pay a lot for it) if you do not have the experience and wisdom to make the right choices. Whether a piece of good furniture is from the antique or modern era is irrelevant if the piece is a cherished part of one’s life. Antiques and other works of art can be bought, inherited and passed down. You want to be sure to be able to pass down fine works of art and pieces of furniture, so make sure that you choose items that are beautiful in their own right, whatever the period they represent. You don’t want the antiques you pass down to end up in the back of a closet or dusty on a shelf because the item was never chosen with care in the first place.

* Over the years, professional home inspectors have identified a list of problems that typically appear on purchasers’ home inspection reports. Early correction of these problems can increase a home’s appeal, and it’s selling price. Correction also sets the stage for a favourable home inspection report should the purchaser request one, and thereby helps to streamline your sale. The following checklist can help you achieve your marketing goals.
* Using the checklist as a guide to examine your house will enable you to see your house the way a prospective purchaser or a professional home inspector might.
o Is your home physically fit? To give your home a competitve edge when it’s time to sell, make sure it is in good physical condition. This not only makes your house more attractive and desirable, it also simplifies or elimates the negotiation process when the time comes for the buyer’s pre-purchase inspection.
According to home inspection experts everywhere, approximately half of the resale homes on the market today have at least one significant defect. Routine maintenance is the best way to prevent major costly problems from developing in the first place. So, if you’ve been putting off repairs, now is the time to catch up, as quick as you can!
To identify which components are most in need of repair, many sellers now enlist professional home inspectors before putting up the ‘For Sale’ sign.
* What is a home inspection?
A professional home inspection is an objective, in-depth visual examination of a home’s structure and operating systems, and should result in a detailed report describing the condition of the home. The main intent of a home inspection is to educate the client as to the physical condition of the home.
o No house is perfect, and a home inspection is not intended to identify every little blemish or minute surface imperfection. The concientious home inspector tries to discover if there are major defects in a home that the client, and perhaps no one else, is aware of – and should also point out the positive aspects of a house. A good or better than average report can be a good marketing tool for vendors and their agents.
Print this list and check it twice:
Check the major systems.
After size, style and location, a home buyer’s primary concern is the condition of the basic structure and major electro-mechanical systems. Most buyers do not want to invest a great deal of money correcting problems in such critical areas. A thorough investigation of the following major items should be made in order to determine if they are serviceable:
* Roof structure and covering
* Foundation, basement, and/or crawl space
* Central heating and air conditioning systems
* Electrical system
* Plumbing system
Make maintenance improvements.
The maintenance improvements listed below are relatively easy and inexpensive to make, yet they can substantially improve a home’s appearance, efficiency and comfort.
* Trim trees and shrubs which touch or overhang the house.
* Apply new caulking and weatherstripping as needed around windows and doors.
* Clean gutters of debris and leaves, repair or replace cracked or broken gutters, downspouts and extensions to ensure proper drainage
* Replace bathroom caulk or grout where necessary to prevent seepage and improve appearance.
* Ventilate closed basements and crawl spaces, or install a dehumidifier to prevent excessive.
* Regrade soil around the house to prevent ponding of water next to the foundation
* Replace dirty filters in the heating and ventilating systems
* Have the heating, ventilating and air-conditioning systems professionally serviced
* Have chimneys professionally cleaned & inspected, and install chimney hoods and caps as required. For wood-burning installations insist on a WETT Certified Technician.
Pay attention to details.
Fixing even minor items can go a long way toward improving that important first impression of your home. Here are some improvements which you might consider:
* Repair leaky faucets
* Tighten loose door knobs
* Replace damaged screens
* Replace broken panes of glass – cloudy sealed-pane units can often be replaced inexpensively, and will drastically improve the appearance of a window or patio door.
* Patch small holes in walls and ceilings and repaint
* Repair or replace faded or peeling wallpaper
* Repair and coat the driveway
Take safety precautions.
Pay attention to items relating to protecting the home and its occupants from danger. The following are important safety precaution which home buyers will appreciate, are relatively easy to implement and shouldn’t cost a lot. And they’ll create a great impression!
* Installing good quality smoke detectors
* Installing a good quality carbon-monoxide detector
* Ensure adequate outdoor lighting, especially in suburban and rural locales
* ‘GFCI’ outlets outdoors and in wet locations such a bath & laundry areas.
* Keep the stairwells tidy and free of debris and obstructions, and leave plenty of clearance around the garage door, electrical panel and furnace.
* Keep flammables and combustibles away from the furnace and other utility areas.
* If you have direct entry from the garage to the interior of the home, consider installing a hydraulic or other form of auto-closure device on the door.
* Check the ‘down’ tension on garage door openers, and ensure that the door reverses without an excessive amount of pressure.
Make cosmetic improvements.
An attractive, clean and tidy appearance will enhance your home’s appeal. In addition to making any necessary repairs, remember to:
* Keep the lawn mowed and the house ‘picked-up’
* Clean the exterior walls & trim, and wash the windows squeeky clean.
* Open the shades and curtains to create a bright, inviting atmosphere.
* Pay particular attention to the cleanliness and comfort of the kitchen and bathrooms.
Prepare for the buyer’s inspection.
More and more purchasers are requesting pre-purchase inspections. It’s a good idea to assemble in advance, the various house records that can be used to answer questions from the purchaser and their inspector.
You should try to have on hand:
* Appliance receipts, service records and warranties
* Information on the age of major components such as the roof coverings, furnace, air-conditioner, etc.
* Major component warranties (e.g. roofing, siding, windows, carpeting furnace and other appliances
* Heating, water and electric bills from at least the past 12 months
How did your house make out?
Hopefully, this home seller’s checklist has helped you gain a clearer knowledge of your home’s overall condition – from a buyer’s perspective. Now you can make repairs or improvements will will increase your home’s marketability. And remember, you ARE marketing your house – you probably wouldn’t try to sell your car without making it clean and ready. It just makes good sense! Of course, even if your house is already in optimum condition, a professional home inspection can also be a good marketing tool. Just leave a copy of the report on the kitchen table for agents and purchasers to read.

Feng Shui (pronounced Foong Shway or Fung Shoy) is the ancient Chinese art of luck management, which works by maximising the flow of energy (known as ‘Chi’) in your environment. Every object, inanimate or living, possesses its own energy field and also has an affect on the flow of Chi in your environment.
The orientation and layout of your home, garden or business and its contents can impact your career, personal relationships, health and wealth. Whilst observing the basic rules of Feng Shui can greatly enhance your lifestyle, ignoring its principles can similarly bring misfortune and sorrow.
The most familiar method of Feng Shui is the compass method works on the principle of each sector of your house falling into a different area of your life, depending on its orientation. These sectors are identified by placing an octagonal, nine-sectioned diagram over a plan of your home. This diagram is known as the Ba Gua and is always aligned with the wall containing the front door or main entrance to the premises, with the compass points corresponding to those of the house directions. For example, if your front door faces North, then you should place the Ba Gua diagram on a plan of your property with the North sector (relating to career) aligned with the front door.
In the business environment, Feng Shui increases productivity and profitability, improves the health of its employees, enhances the company’s reputation, protects from insolvency and helps you to recognise and exploit opportunities as they arise.
Clearly, not all houses are uniformly square and the front door is not always centrally placed. In these situations, you will find that some of the sectors of the Ba Gua may be missing, indicating trouble in that particular area of a person’s life. However, steps can be taken to redress the imbalance like placing a bright light on the wall close to the missing sector to counteract the negative effects caused by areas that are lacking.
Feng Shui is a complex art, but there are simple rules that everyone can observe to help bring harmony into their lives by increasing the flow of positive energy in their environment and using effective lighting is one of the best ways of achieving this. Light is a very powerful tool in Feng Shui and the way in which you illuminate your home or office influences the impression that you create, including the shape, size and style of lighting that you choose.
There are many different types of lighting including decorative, accent, ambient, task and functional, with the most effective lighting schemes being a combination of all these. Accent light can be used to highlight a picture or display cabinet, ambient light can highlight dark corners and task light is used to throw a spotlight onto focused areas, such as a work desk.
A chandelier is one of the few all-round excellent Feng Shui energisers. The crystals in the chandelier reflect light beautifully, bringing in added glow and warmth. Hanging chandeliers in the southern corner of any room is beneficial and a chandelier in the Southwest corner of your home is wonderful if you wish to invite romance into your life or stimulate a current relationship! The Southwest sector relates to marriage and using pastel coloured lampshades with subdued lighting in this area can achieve the same effect.
You can invite excellent energy into your home by installing bright lights just inside and outside the front door are excellent, which for maximum benefit should be left on during the hours of darkness. Good lighting also helps stimulate the general flow of energy and is one of the best accessories for promoting balance and harmony within the home.
Lighting is one of the most cost-effective ways to enhance your environment. The right lighting can make small or uninviting areas feel alive, welcoming and tranquil. Lighting is a simple way of adding colour to a scheme, whether it is through choice of lamp base, shade or bulb. Investing in good quality lighting can also be a more economical alternative to major redecoration or the purchasing of expensive new furnishings.
Invest in a variety of stylish lighting and watch your health, prosperity and wellbeing flourish.

How do you clean granite countertops is a question more and more people are asking, as their popularity in the use of kitchen work surfaces begins to rise rapidly.
This rise of popularity is down to their pretty nature as well as their durability and ruggedness and it’s their latter mentioned qualities which people tend to overly on, principally by neglecting their counter tops and generally taking them for granted.
One of the main concerns of neglect is attributed to the proper cleaning of them; people generally don’t clean them often enough or they tend to use harmful products and materials on them. Here I will discuss how to clean and maintain your granite countertops so they keep that everlasting charm which you have come to enjoy.
Generally people purchase polished granite work surfaces, and the idea is that you want them to be kept in that pristine condition. Although these types of granite countertops are pretty easy to maintain a number of guidelines need to be followed. Firstly, it’s essential that when you are chopping any food at all that you use a chopping board, if you fail to do so you’ll end up with deep scratches on your surfaces, which after a while will need professional care and attention to rectify the problem. However, if you do forget and the damage which has been caused in minimum then there is a possibility you could rectify the problem yourself by using fine steel wool to smooth away the scratches, but make sure the steel wool is fine and not abrasive as this could increase the damage.
Leading nicely on from the above guideline is you need to ensure that hot pots, pans, dishes, plates and hot drinks shouldn’t be placed directly on the countertops instead heatproof mats should be placed underneath the hot kitchenware. Generally if you fail to follow this procedure black marks may appear on the surface. Again, if this does happen then the best way to solve this situation is to use fine steel wool on the marks.
In addition to the above procedures care must be taken not to leave the remains of acidic foods such as citrus fruit, beer, wine, vinegar, fizzy drinks etc or even cleaning products which are citric acid or vinegar based on the granite countertop, as the liquid will be absorbed by the stone which can eventually lead to corrosion. You’ll need to make sure that any of these liquids are wiped off using warm soapy water and a soft cloth; and any drinks containing these liquids should be used in conjunction with a coaster, in fact coasters should be used underneath any class when placed on a granite countertop, as any sliding of the vessel across the surface could scratch it.
Just to finish off on the cleaning of granite countertops it’s important that you don’t use any abrasive products or materials to clean the stone, use the aforementioned soft cloth and non-acidic soapy water.
The coup de grace in the maintenance of your surfaces is a little godsend known as stone penetrating sealant which should be suggested by manufacturer of your kitchen. This sealant contains special polymers and resins which penetrate deep inside the stone which forms an oil and water resistant barrier, protecting it against problems such as mold, mildew and stain causing dirt. The final beauty of this product is that it will allow your countertops to release moisture and breathe naturally. This sealant should be applied at least once a year in order to make the most of it’s qualities.

A whole new generation of beanbag furniture has come on the scene in recent years, bringing a new level of style and comfort to living rooms, playrooms and other places where people want to be cozy.
Looking at these new style foam chairs, which are sold under brand names like Comfy Sack, Foof Chair and LoveSac, you might wonder what all the fuss is about. These beanbag chairs don’t look that different from the beanbags of the 1960s, but they are worlds apart.
To illustrate the difference between today’s beanbags and those you might have had in your college dorm room, let’s explore one brand of foam furniture: the Comfy Sack.
Comfy Sacks look a lot like first-generation beanbag chairs, but that’s about where the similarities end. Instead of being filled with noisy, scratchy and flattening-prone pellets of Styrofoam, Comfy Sacks and the other next-generation bean bags are filled with foam.
In the case of Comfy Sacks, it’s a high-quality, commercial-grade urethane foam. Why does this make a difference? Foam chairs are much more supportive than the old beanbag chairs. They hug your body in whatever position you’d like to be in and quickly spring back to their original shape when you get up.
Comfy Sacks and the other new bean bag chairs will never leak or compress. They put no pressure on the body so they are perfect for sitting for long periods of time without pain.
Another big difference between the new foam chairs and the old bean bags is that the new chairs come in a wide range of sizes. Looking again at the Comfy Chair, which has the widest range of sizes, you can choose from the following:
3.5 foot Comfy Sack, good for one child or adult
5 foot Comfy Sack, a roomier choice for one adult
6 foot Comfy Sack, good for two adults
7.5 foot lounger, a good couch replacement that seats three or four adults
8 foot Comfy Sack, also known as the Party Sack, seats a crowd.
Given the wide range of size options in the new generation of beanbag furniture, it’s no exaggeration to say that this is one piece of furniture you’ll use every day. Foam chairs are a perfect choice for the game room, for the kids to watch videos on, to replace your couch in the living room or to provide a comfy place to snuggle for your autistic child. Once you try living with beanbag furniture, you’ll wonder how you went so long without it.

Gas boilers normally extract the air they require for combustion either from inside the heated area or straight from the outside. Extracting air directly from outside, characteristically via a plastic pipe that moves through an outside wall, is more effective and secure.
This system is generally referred to as ‘sealed combustion’, since the gas is burned in a chamber that is blocked to engaged areas. This arrangement almost removes any hazard in the event of combustion gases seeping out into engaged areas.
The efficiency of gas boilers can be greatly increased by incorporating motorized dampers that block the flue pipe outlet when the boiler is not in use. This helps in preventing the loss of heated room air between boiler cycles. Another way to increase the efficiency of gas boilers is by using electric ignition. This does away with the necessity for a standing pilot light.
Gas boiler efficiency can also be enhanced by fan-assisted combustion systems, which do not call for a very big natural draft chimney and can be relieved through a minor flue pipe straight through a wall. Gas boilers, in reality, operate best at full load. When their intensity is lessened, they can drop by as much 20 percentage points in efficiency.
If building requirements are diverse, as is common in commercial buildings, multiple boilers are considered to be highly suitable. Generally, small gas boilers that function effectively are considered a better option than the most suitable of the bigger gas boilers. As has been observed, a number of small boilers can function more competently than a single big system. The reason is that each gas boiler can function frequently close to its full load, which is the most important yardstick for a gas boiler to function in an effective manner.
