Are Reverse Osmosis Systems Making Your Water Unhealthy?

Category : Uncategorized

Reverse osmosis systems were once very popular water filtration systems for home and commercial use. However, due to their inefficiency, high cost and the fact that they remove essential minerals from water, they are no longer a top choice when it comes to water filters.

The reverse osmosis process was first developed for the printing industry many years ago, as there was a need for mineral free water and this technology was able to provide that. As the home water filtration market heated up, manufacturers started offering reverse osmosis systems for residential use.

Although it certainly does improve upon tap water, removing many harmful chemicals, there are three major problems with this type of water filtration:

1.They cannot effectively remove synthetic chemicals (pesticides, herbicides, etc.), as most of them are molecularly smaller than water. They can only filter out those contaminants that are larger than water.

2. They are extremely inefficient. Not only do they leave smaller toxins in the water, they also leave a lot of water behind, wasting 2-3 gallons for every gallon they produce.

3. Perhaps worst of all, they de-mineralize the water, taking out important trace elements such as calcium, magnesium and potassium that our bodies need. The reason water is so healthful is due in part to the natural elements it contains…a reverse osmosis system removes all of them.

So you can see why this process is not ideal for home water filtration. You are much better off with a unit that can remove all contaminants both small and large, while leaving essential minerals behind so you can reap the health benefits of water.

Although some companies continue to sell water-filtration-guide.com/reverse-osmosis-filters.html reverse osmosis systems, often accompanied by unsubstantiated claims of performance, they are not as popular as they once were for obvious reasons. They have been replaced by more efficient, more effective multi-stage filtration units that can outperform the RO units and provide years of clean, pure, healthy water.

If you were considering a reverse osmosis system, you might want to think twice. There are much better water filtration systems on the market.

Evaluating Harmonics Laminate Flooring

Category : Uncategorized

Among many manufacturers, the Harmonics brand of laminate flooring is worth considering for those who are looking for a floor cover that’s easy to install and maintain. Many homeowners want to have a floor covering that looks as good as real wood or stone but costs only half the price.

Since its first appearance on the market, Harmonics laminate flooring has steadily grown in popularity. This is primarily due to the ease of installing the laminates and of caring for the flooring as well.

Laminate flooring has four layers – the base and top layers are coated with a synthetic moisture-repelling sealant. One middle layer accounts for the stability of the laminate. The other middle layer is a photograph of hardwood, tile, or stone surface – this creates a faux-material effect on the laminate.

Harmonics laminate flooring does not only offer unique and beautiful designs; they are durable and last much longer than most other kinds of flooring available today. The laminates can be purchased in a wide variety of patterns and colors.

Harmonics has also made it simple for customers to install the flooring by themselves. Laminate flooring can be directly installed over the original floor. If you have carpets though, you need to take them out before starting to lay out the new flooring. However, if you are not sure about installing your new laminate flooring, you can hire a flooring contractor to install the laminate for you.

You can browse the Internet to search for online stores that sell Harmonics laminate flooring. Many websites allow you to compare prices with other brands of laminate floors. However, if you want to know the real look and feel of the material, it’s best to visit your local floor covering supplier. You can ask for advice from them, or get a sample of different laminate flooring brands. This will help you compare the different brands with each other before you decide to purchase.

What’s Your Decorating Style?

Category : Uncategorized

Everyone has their own decorating style, yours will be different from mine, and your sister’s will be different from yours…

It is very important to truly understand your own decorating style, before you make any decisions regarding your hardwood floor purchase.

The best way to find out what your design style is, is to look around you. If you are just starting out in life and do not own any furniture; you are just out of collage and have no idea what you like… take a good look in your closet.

Your favorite pieces will tell a story, will guide you in the right direction. If you have been around for a while, and over a years had a chance to collect different furniture pieces, they will also tell you what you like and where to go from there.

You may have an eclectic style that started with some of your grandmother’s pieces, you added to them over time to complement them and to, to form your own decorating style. You may discover that you like the rustic feel of the wide plank pine floor, with it’s own build in beauty, showcasing the deep, dark knots, that give it tremendous character.

Or you may love the stream-lined style of modern design, at home with spectacular, smooth maple floors, that look seamless and elegant.

Then there are the traditional, sophisticated and rich dark tones of majestic oak floor, with just the right amount of grain interwoven throughout each board. Here you may find gleaming dinning room tables and Persian area rugs, with tailored drapery framing the windows.

If you like the traditional style, but are a bit more daring in life, you may love hardwood similar to oak, but with a lot more grain and character, incredible beauty of ash will work with your style.

No matter what your own style is, you should know it, before you start making any decisions regarding your new hardwood flooring choices.

You see, the choice that you make here will become one of the major parts of your decorating scheme. If all your furniture are shaker style or traditional country, they will be out of place on a modern, seamless maple.

If you own high lacquered, sophisticated pieces it will be a mistake to showcase them on the wide plank, knotted pine. If you are sure of what your decorating style is, your choice of hardwood will work not only with the furniture that you already own, but also with those, that you will acquire in the future.

One other aspect of choosing your hardwood floor process that must be considered along with the decorating style is your lifestyle, or in other words, you need to look into your families, activities, their habits, and their favorite locations within the house.

Only then your decision will be the right one.

Choosing King Size Waterbed Sheets

Category : Uncategorized

Waterbed sheets come in a variety of sizes such as single, super single, double sheets, queen size, Californian king, and king size waterbed sheets. If you search the internet, you’ll find that aside from the different sizes, waterbed sheets or waterbed linens also come in a wide variety of styles, colors and materials.

Waterbed sheets are often described as ’satin’ sheets. There are woven satin sheets and knitted satin sheets which you can buy depending on your budget and needs. A nylon satin sheet that is woven forms a durable waterbed sheet. A bridal satin sheet is thick and formed from a high quality fabric and is usually more expensive than other satin sheet fabrics.

If you’re going to buy sheets for your waterbed, you need to consider several factors. Consider the size and frame of your waterbed first before choosing the style of sheets you like. Take into consideration the durability and comfort of the sheets. Don’t forget that it should feel pleasant to the touch and it should be perfectly fitting to ensure that you will have a good sleep or good rest lying on it. The last thing you should think about when purchasing waterbed sheets should be the color.

Choosing the style of your waterbed sheets will depend on your waterbed’s framing. For instance, if you have a soft frame water bed or soft sided bed, it would be best to choose sheets that are elasticated at the corners. If your waterbed is hard sided, then fitted sheets with corner pockets will give your waterbed sheets a better fit. You can also purchase flat satin sheets which are combined with a fitted sheet to prevent the sheets from falling off the bed.

When purchasing sheets for your waterbed, it is important to be sure about the size and fit that you want. Because waterbeds are not regular beds, they are usually larger than conventional beds and follow a different bed size chart. Sheets for regular beds are usually around 74 inches in length while waterbed sheets are about 84 inches in length. This is why it is important to make sure that you’re ordering sheets especially made for waterbeds and not sheets for standard beds.

Measure the length and width of your waterbed carefully before you make the purchase. Don’t forget to measure the depth or thickness of your waterbed as well to ensure that the sheets will have just the right fit. This is especially true if you’re going to buy from waterbed manufacturers online. Some manufacturers do not have a return policy so you really need to be sure about the exact sizes you’re ordering.

Of course, the price of your waterbed sheets will also depend on its size. Obviously, king size waterbed sheets are likely to be the most expensive out of all the available sizes. However, the most in demand waterbed sheets are usually for queen sized, full sized or double waterbeds. A full sized waterbed is smaller than Queen sized but is large enough to accommodate two people.

Home Security – Burglary Prevention

Category : Uncategorized

In 2004 the Bureau of Justice reported that:
-77% of all crime was property related
-17% of all crime domiciles were violated by a burglar
-85% of all burglaries the offender gained entry into the house or other building.

In the article “Home Security: Do It Yourself Home Security” we talked about ideas to prevent entry to your home. But the fact is that a determined burglar will get into your home. That is his job and let’s face it, looking at the statistics, they are unfortunately good at it. Remember this: property crime occurs every 3 seconds, a home burglary every 15 seconds.

The home burglary that has received the most attention recently involved the theft of a laptop from a Veteran’s Affairs analysts’ home. The laptop reportedly had the personal data for 26.5 million veterans.

Three other tactics might be used to help prevent a burglary are home security alarms or burglar alarms, property marking and home security cameras.

Property marking is simply marking all your valuables with an identifying “signature” so they can readily be identified when recovered. Methods of marking include micro dots, laser pens, and ultraviolet pens. The key here is to have signage letting everyone know your property won’t be so easy to sell on the black market because it is marked. Believe it or not most burglars do read and study their targets.

Home security cameras as part of a home security system are very effective in two respects. First as a deterrent. If a burglar sees that a property is covered with surveillance cameras they will have second thoughts in targeting that property. Second, if they are not that smart and decide to enter anyhow, a good surveillance system will capture the images of the perpetrator making it easier for the police to capture the bad guys. Home security cameras can be wired or wireless, real or dummy, indoor or outdoor, or any combination thereof.

Alarms can act as a successful deterrent. 90 % of police believe alarms deter burglary attempts. There are all kinds of alarms including expensive home security alarm systems monitored by ex-police officers. Silent, noisy, wired, wireless, door, window, motion, monitored, unmonitored-you name it and there is an alarm for it. Signage again is the key. Let burglars know they are in for a hard time ahead of time. The thing is alarms work.

Alarms, surveillance cameras, and property marking are three more ways you can protect your home from burglary. Home security has become a huge business in the United States. With the advances in home security alarms, home security systems including wireless home security and home security cameras maybe, just maybe the bad guys will think twice before breaking into your home

If you think crime can only happen to the other guy you are wrong. The “other guy” is thinking the same thing and YOU are that “other guy”. There is a reason why they call it self defense. You have to protect yourself.

Chances are very good that you are reading this because in some way crime has touched your life or you want to be proactive and protect yourself, family, home, or business from the ravages of crime. That is the first step.

NOW the next step is for you to take action TODAY and purchase a cyber eye or voice alert. What You Should Know About Cheap Cuckoo Clocks

Category : Uncategorized

There are cuckoo clocks available for people with all kinds of decorating or collecting budgets. On Ebay you’ll find cheap cuckoo clocks priced from $9.99 to thousands of dollars before the bidding begins. Obviously, if a clock is hand carved, very old, and in good shape, it will end up bringing in lots of bidders who cruise the listings looking for bargains. If it’s a mass-produced, relatively modern piece of equipment you may end up snagging an enjoyable, delightful, accurate and cheap cuckoo clock for very little money.

You have to do your homework, researching brand names so you know what you’re buying and roughly how much you should be paying for it. Find a clock that suits you out of the hundreds constantly being listed on the world famous auction site, determine how much you are willing to pay (don’t forget to factor in shipping and handling charges as well as insurance fees) and stick to it. If the bidding goes higher than your limit, drop out and wait for a similar item to appear on the site.

There are also bargains to be found on many of the websites that specialize in selling cuckoo clocks as well as on sites that sell clocks of all kinds. The greater the selection of clocks that a company sells, the greater the bargains will be for closeouts, inventory reduction sales and promotional items. Again, do your homework. Know what you are buying beforehand and then try your best to make the deal you want for that item.

It’s best to buy your cuckoo clock, especially if it’s a cheap cuckoo clock, from a website or company that offers a warranty on the purchase, and from companies that also offer repair services. This way, if the item is defective in any way when you receive it, you’ll have recourse. Also, if it should stop working somewhere down the road, the company you purchased it may be able to offer repairs. In the interest of developing and maintaining a good reputation and attracting repeat business from customers, the company should do right by repairing the item you bought from them at the cheapest possible cost. How To Cut And Polish Granite?

Category : Uncategorized

The Greeks were the first to use stones to make homes. The procedure of acquiring natural stone has not changed much since then. In modern days too big blocks of stone are cut from the mines and then sold in thin pieces or slabs. After buying these slabs, they are polished and shaped according to usage. For the granite stone too this process is followed.

Over the years the main method has remained the same but to perform the steps the type of machineries used has changed drastically. Science has transformed the old machines into much more effective and time saving types. Three basic machines are used in granite fabrication. These are saws, polishers and routers.

Saws
Block saw or gang saw cuts the stone blocks into slabs. Nowadays diamond wire saw is used for cutting. The machine has a wire and on the wire a commercial diamond is fixed. Diamond itself is the hardest stone. So it makes the job much quicker. Then a bridge saw is used to give the slabs proper size.

Polishers
Polishers are used to make the surface of the granite smooth. Polishers make the surface of the granite mirror like. An abrasive material is attached with the rotating pads of the polisher. The surface of the material varies according to purpose. The smoothness of the polishing increases with the fineness of the abrasive material.

Routers
Routers are used to create designs on the slab surface. There are various edges that are used in the router to create different designs. Router has a spinning blade fixed with diamonds to cut and create the required designs.

The Vacuum Cleaner – An Essential Home Appliance

Category : Uncategorized

A vacuum cleaner is an essential piece of equipment. It would be very difficult to cope without one. People prefer domestic vacuum cleaners for carpeted floors in their homes.

The vacuum cleaner is an ingenious device. It has an air pump that creates a partial vacuum to suck up dust and dirt. It collects the dirt by a filtering system or a cyclone for later disposal.

Types of Vacuum Cleaners:

On the basis of their configurations, there are various types of vacuum cleaners. The following are some well-known vacuum cleaners.

• Bagless Vacuum: A bagless vacuum, as the name suggests, doesn’t have a bag. It collects the dust in a compartment which is easily emptied. This saves people from the headache of dealing with messy vacuum cleaner bags.

• Upright Vacuum Cleaner: An upright vacuum has the pump mounted directly above the suction intake, with the bag mounted on the handle that rises to about waist height. The upright vacuum designs usually employ mechanical beaters, often rotating brushes, to help unsettle dust to be vacuumed up. A belt attached to the vacuum motor drives these beaters.

• Canister Vacuum Cleaner: A canister vacuum has the motor and bag in a separate canister (cylinder) unit (usually mounted on wheels) connected to the vacuum head by a flexible hose. Although upright units have been tested as more effective (mainly because of the beaters), the lighter, more maneuverable heads of canister models are popular. Some canister vacuums in the market have power heads that contain the same sort of mechanical beaters as in upright units, although such beaters are driven by a separate electric motor.

• Backpack Vacuum: A Backpack vacuum is a major tool for commercial cleaning. It allows the user to move rapidly about a large area. It’s essentially a canister vacuum cleaner, except that straps are used to carry the canister unit on the user’s back.

• Built-in or central vacuum cleaner: A built-in vacuum or central vacuum cleaner has the suction motor and bag based in a central location in the building, and provides vacuum inlets at strategic places throughout the building. Only the hose and pickup head need to be carried from room to room; and the hose is commonly 8 m (25 ft) long, allowing a large range of movement without changing vacuum inlets. A plastic piping connects the vacuum outlets to the central unit. The vacuum head may either be un-powered or have beaters operated by an electric motor or air-driven motor. The dirt bag in a central vacuum system is usually so large that emptying or changing needs to be done less often, perhaps once per year.

• Robotic vacuum cleaner: A robotic vacuum moves around the room, cleaning automatically. A battery powers a robotic vacuum.

• Small hand-held vacuum cleaner: A small hand-held vacuum is either battery-operated or electric. It is popular for cleaning up smaller spills.

• Wet vacs or wet/dry vacuums: Wet vacs or wet/dry vacuums can be used to clean up liquid spills.

Vacuums are very beneficial tools against dust particles. They are particularly helpful for people suffering from various allergies due to dirt. Vacuum buyers should go through some reviews before buying, to ensure they choose a vacuum that will best suit their needs.
